The last time is different
When you know it's coming
Most lasts in our lives, we have no clue at the time.
The last time reading a specific book before bed. The book just stops being asked for. By the time you notice, you cannot remember which night was the last one.
It’s only looking back that you realise it was the last
Then they are moments when you are aware you are approaching the last time. These moments where we know always hit harder.
Saying farewell as part of the last time to someone or something you deeply care about makes it mean more. It’s the same as any other time except it is not.
Sometimes there is no chance to make it perfect. Sometimes this moment is what it is.
That last time was merely a sentence at the end of the wonderful story. To fully appreciate what you had during all the other moments where it was a part of your life you need a little bit of time.
When you do re-read the whole story the last few words won’t mean as much.
Thanks Nanna for showing me what love and finding a lifelong soulmate looks like. So many great memories for me to fondly look back on. Including the sausage rolls, shortbread biscuits and your creative skill.
In dedication of Nanna
